Re-imagine online video watching to dramatically increase number of minutes viewed. That was the mission Malin, product manager for SVT Kids Online, gave my team in 2012. I worked on the service for a year and led the work on defining how kids interact with the shows. Foundations, patterns, optimization, and results
I worked for three years as an Interaction Designer at SVT, the Swedish public service TV broadcaster. While helping to build some great video services (and games) I developed my ability to think strategically, learned to appreciate Scrum and met hundreds of persons to validate interaction concepts. Strategist, inclusion, Scrum and more.
We had a problem at Barnkanalen.se, the website for kids from the Swedish public service TV provider SVT. A lot of our content – shows and games – is not accessible to all. Many shows are restricted to being watched on devices in in Sweden. Most games are created with Flash and thus not usable on iOS and Android devices. "Go explore, we think you will find a new favourite!"

A longitudinal study with up to 100 participants has the potential to combine the best of quantitative and qualitative metjods. A bonus: no need to constantly find new "test subjects". "Is the service valuable over time?"

Prototypes are good for a lot of things: usability studies, testing ideas and as an internal communication tool. For a guideline project I helped create an iOS app prototype. The process was fun and gave us many insights.
In the span of 90 minutes I changed my mind on several key aspects, scrapped two prototypes and got lots of new ideas. All thanks to my colleagues!

I wanted to introduce my colleagues to the user experience parts of a new project we are working on so I invited them to a paper mockup session. The team created a lot of cool, fun and useful interaction ideas and my colleagues also started thinking a lot about the details in the product that we are creating. The workshop was a great success.
Barnkanalen sänder tv. Eller är det kanske så att Barnkanalen tillhandahåller redskap till barn så att de kan underhålla sig själva? Att se Fåret Shaun-avsnittet "På håret" som ett redskap för underhållning är ett sätt att börja tänka interaktionsdesign (IxD).
I just realized that a lot of my current thinking converges on one concept: Inclusion. Topics are as diverse as poverty, support for assistive technology, gender and browser/device support.
Barnkanalens nya app bygger på avdelningen Barnplay på Barnkanalen.se. Sök, och möjlighet att skapa en lista med favoriter, har utvecklats med en blandning av app-specifik kod och Javascript. Utseendet i det app-specifika gränssnittet i appen är hämtat från operativsystemet, vilket kan kännas skönt men tråkigt.

Tack vare fjärdeklassarna på Mohedeskolan vet vi mer om hur vi kan bygga vidare på barnkanalen.se. Bland annat vet vi hur det ska funka att starta avsnitt och kolla på filmer där karaktärerna pratar engelska.
Mobil-menyer behöver synas, får inte ändras och ska gärna vara kul att pilla på. Det är några resultat från tester som vi gjort med svt.se-besökare. Andra resultat är mer nedslående.
I SVT Play kan vi göra specialsaker: Nu finns filmen ”Jävla Pojkar”, som sändes i SVT2 i torsdags, i en syntolkad version i SVT Play! Så gick det till!
En av många saker som barn har gemensamt med vuxna är att de allt oftare surfar på smartphones och surfplattor. Vi har byggt sajterna så dom funkar någorlunda bra på mobiler. Men få av våra spel och pyssel funkar i mobiler så vi har mycket kvar att göra!
